We got up at 4 to get a 4:30 shuttle to the airport and catch our Flybe flight to Southampton. Of course we were too early to go to the port so we went instead to Oceans on High Street, a shop where we could check our luggage for a few hours while we waited to be able to go to the port and board the ship.

We took a walk down High Street. There were many interesting buildings on the street but Holyrood Church was the most interesting of all. The church was originally built in 1320 but several catastropes along the years means it's been rebuilt or restored many times. Finally in 1940 it was bombed by the Germans and the shell as it stands now is what's left. It now serves as a merchant marine memorial. Along the walls are many plaques dating back to the 1800s and having more recent ones such as the Falkland Islands one I have a picture of here. Of note is a drinking fountain in memory of the crew of the Titanic.

We walked along Michael's Street, Castle Way, Simnel, Upper Bugle, Hamtun, and West before returning to High Street. On our way back towards Oceans, we stopped at Lidl, a local grocery store. I was amazed at all the flavours of ale on the shelf. I'd never dream of trying any of them... most sounded gross.

We went as far down High Street as the Old Wall built during the 1300s for fortification from enemy raids. On our way back to Oceans, we stopped in Sprinkles to have an ice cream cone. after finishing, we picked up our bags, grabbed a white cab and went to the port.
