April 10th

Albert let us out at the foot of Wawel Royal Castle. While we were waiting to cross the street, Michael bought us a local Krakow bread to taste. As we crossed the street to the castle, we passed a peaceful demonstration of some kind, attended by several members of the Krakow police.

The walls surrounding the Wawel Royal Castle District were tall and we had a fair walk uphill to the gate. When we entered the gate, we were at the top of the hill and along the bank of the Vistula River. Below us, we saw a statue of the famous Wawel dragon whose lair was supposed to have been on the banks of the Vistula below the castle.

Further along was the entrance to a beautiful grassed area surrounded by awesome structures and full of flowering shrubs and trees. After taking pictures of our beautiful surroundings, we visited the inside the cathedral (no pix allowed).

Upon exiting the cathedral, we walked down an alley through some archways into a large courtyard. There were very beautiful columns, windows, and staircases many decorated with gorgeous frescoes. Even the roof's drainage system was beautiful... dragon mouth spouts!

We returned to the grassed area where there was a cafe and we had time to grab a snack and snap a few more pictures.
