April 12th

Our group now expanded, we set off to explore Budapest early. Our local guide was George.

We drove along the Danube then crossed a bridge and passed the Buda Castle, now used for a variety of things including museums, art, and government offices. We exited the bus to walk up the street to the 13th century Matthias Coronation Church. This church was not only gorgeous from the outside with its mosaic roof but also gorgeous inside. My favourite feature was a round sculpted window high above the baptismal font.

Once back outside, we climbed some stairs to catch the view from Fisherman's Bastion. The views towards the Hungarian Parliament on the Pest side of the river were awesome. We had a little time on our own to explore the immediate area so I walked around the church to see its back side... Even more spires, gorgeous doors... such beauty!

When it was time to leave, we walked down many stairs towards the bus and had yet another wonderful view of a beautiful city.
