1977 - The Industrial Arts Wing
and a Newer Gym!!

In 1977, Daniel McIntyre's Industrial Arts department expanded from being only an auto shop (housed in the old erection shed) to a full fledged department. New, state of the art Electrical, Metals, and Woods Shops were built and the Auto Shop was relocated in the north west corner of the school. A new gym was also built. Since the old gym was no longer needed, half of it was converted into a new library and half was converted into a multi-purpose room with a small stage. The old library became an art room. The kitchen, storage rooms, and old north west entrance became storage areas for the new multi-purpose room and for the new auto shop. Since the old auto shop was no longer needed, most of the erection shed was leveled to make room for a new west entrance to the school.

Please scroll right to see the entire floor plan.

Since the new Auto Shop would have covered up the school's name on the north west corner of the building, the stone name and crest were removed from the brick. They were relocated to the new Alverstone Street entrance next to the new gym.

This is the industrial arts wing as seen from Wellington Avenue.

You can see the entrance to the new auto shop in this picture. (large door, right)

Most of the old Auto Shop (erection shed) was torn down at this time. Parts of the erection shed, especially its storage areas, now form a west exit and small offices for community personelle.

From this angle, you can see the decreased size of the roof. Compare it to the same picture angle when the erection shed existed (Go to picture.)

An old mural from the wall of the shop can still be seen if you enter the storage room on the north side of the exit.
